About Balang Foundation
We are a non-profit organization dedicated to providing quality reading literacy support for the youth, communities, and schools in Africa. Our literacy packages include leadership skills that prepare both in and out of school youth for the communities they will serve in their various professions. Our philosophy is that reading is a catalyst for human transformation and a necessary condition for sustainable development. We engage schools through in-service teacher development and work directly with various community stakeholders and units through catch-up and advocacy programmes. The name ‘Balang’ means reading the words and the world. We believe that the ability to read should be harnessed in the early years of one’s life.
