Our Projects

Reader Community Cells
Research shows that most of the school going children in rural areas are under the custodianship of their parents, grandparents and relatives who are not equipped to support reading at home. This project provides parents or caretakers with skills to become active supporters of early reading development. Join us to be a community facilitator.
Reading Buddies
Reading buddies seeks to promote abled readers who are in higher grades to read for children who are below their grade levels. We impart volunteering youth with skills to support and read for and with other children at our designated community centres.

School Partnership Programme
To develop a community of readers, teachers play an important role in activating a reading routine. The Foundation partners with schools to provide in-service teacher support on reading and writing literacy instruction. We upskill teachers’ approaches to reading literacy and train them to become authors of culturally relevant materials that are shared for wider readership.
Literacy Camps
The Foundation trains and supports youth on reading and writing skills to help them not only to succeed at school, but also to develop a lifestyle as readers and writers. Proceedings of these workshops are published into anthologies, which are delivered at schools and homes to cultivate the culture of reading and writing beyond the classroom.

Scholarships and Competitions
Balang Foundation offers scholarships for primary and secondary school learners for school uniform, school excursions and study materials. At grade 12, the bursars are given support through a Winter School programme and undergo preparatory workshops including admission and guidance on funding university or college education. Applications are due on 31 August every year. Financial need and academic merits are two criteria for the scholarships. To apply, send us a request via email.
In addition to scholarships, we hold annual reading literacy competitions to promote acceptable reading habits and model good reading patterns in selected districts.
